OBITUARY: Richard Thomas Szyperski (Rich), 90 years young, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on April 27, 2018, from natural causes.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday May 3, 2018 at All Saints Catholic Church. Monsignor Finley of All Saints Catholic Church will be officiating. No visitation will be held. A reception to be at All Saints Catholic Church directly after the funeral mass. Richard requested that he be cremated following the Mass.
Richard was born in Chicago, IL on April 30, 1927. He graduated from St. Rita High School in Chicago and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from DePaul University.
Richard was married to Jan Gerbrach Szyperski on 11/12/1955; they were married 62 years.
Richard’s career started as a chemist for Corn Products Corporation for 20 years; he then branched out to the food brokerage business and ultimately owned his own food brokerage business in Atlanta Georgia called Szyperski Foods, Inc. At age of 75 US Salt utilized his expertise to expand into the American market. Richard enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing golf and taking cruises. Richard was also actively involved in Knights of Columbus where he achieved the Fourth Order. He also was a professional member of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). Richard was a veteran of the US Army where he served in the Medical Corp during the Korean Conflict. Richard and Jan are also members of the Roswell Ramblers Senior Citizens Club of the Roswell Recreation, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Jan, children Richard J & Gayle Szyperski, Lynn & Greg Short, Cathy & James Thrash, Terry & Mark Webb, Michael & Sarah Szyperski and Mary & Ron Rummell along with his sisters Harriet Peach and Sister Mary Claude (Pat). Richard is also survived by his grandchildren Kenneth Webb, Christopher & Courtney Short, John & Laurel Webb, Melissa & Danny Ryerson, Brian & Jennifer Short, Melanie Szyperski, Christen & Jacob Pittman, Kelli Thrash, Jamie & Austin Sale, Zachery Webb and Charlie Szyperski and his great-grandchildren, Nathan Webb, Aidyn Short, Tensly Webb, Rilyn Webb and Remi Webb, and other family and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his son Thomas, his parents Harry & Anna along with his sisters Anna May & Loretta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Friends of Roswell Parks, Inc. in memory of Richard T. Szyperski. Donations can be sent to 38 Hill St. Suite 100, Roswell Ga 30075 or to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. The family of Richard T.
