OBITUARY:
Clifton Payne Estes, age 17, of Atlanta passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2018. He is survived by his parents Jackie (Clifton) and Rick Estes; sister, Lane Parker Estes; grandmothers, Judy Pate Clifton and Mareene Payne Estes; aunt, Julie Estes Bowlick (Tim); cousins, Meagan and Gibson Bowlick of Douglasville, GA; uncle, John Henry Clifton of Toulouse France, uncle James Harrison Clifton (Michelle); cousins Mary Miller (Molly) and James Harrison Clifton, Jr. of Atlanta. Clifton was preceded in death by his grandfathers John Henry Clifton, Sr and James Richard Estes, Sr. Clifton was a junior at Rivers Academy Atlanta high school. He was a member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. Clifton enjoyed wake boarding and fishing at his family’s lake house. Most of all he loved just hanging out with his friends. He recently began a job as a cashier at Target after school which he really enjoyed. Clifton will be remembered for his kind heart, bravery and his support and loyalty to his friends. At vacation bible school and helping coach gymnastics the children gravitated towards Clifton. He was tender and understanding. Clifton was a friend to all and always saw the best in everyone, he loved his friends and was quick to their defense. He was especially kind to the “underdog”. He loved his sister Lane Parker dearly and was proud of her and all of her accomplishments. He drove her to school for the first time on the last day of his life. This made him so proud! We will always remember his happy, sweet and kind smile. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan 13, 2018 at Glenn Memorial UMC. Visitation is 11:30 to 12:45, with a celebration of Clifton’s life at 1:00pm. Reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Graveside service is at 4:00pm at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Dear Rick, Jackie, and Lane Parker, I am the grandmother (Mimi) of Grady and his Dad, Chad Henderson, is my son. I want to let you know what a wonderful son you raised and when Clifton was over to play with Grady, he was always gracious to include Clay and the girls. Clifton was also a very respectful young man to me and I am grateful that I got to know him. I also recall meeting you all at their football games when they were younger. I also would like you to know that I shared in a very anonymous way a post on my Facebook asking for prayers for your family. It quickly had over 75 people committing to pray and share your needs with their prayer groups. I fully believe that Clifton was faster than the blink of an eye "absent from the body, present with the LORD." I have myself walked through the "valley of the shadow of death" in a very tragic event in my life and can attest to the fact that Jesus does through the Holy Spirit give us "a peace that passes all understanding." I am glad that Chad has told me that your family has a lot of friends but I needed to let you know that I am here and hundreds of others are lifting you up in prayer. You are not alone! In His Love, Mary Anne

I'll always remember one year at the Fernbank Elementary back to school picnic, Clifton had been playing in the forest and stepped on a yellow jacket nest. Jackie and other moms swatted several off of him, but he had gotten some stings and I know they HURT - but he was SO brave and said "I'm OK" and even thanked us for helping. Words cannot express how sad it feels to lose this incredible boy. We have always LOVED your entire family and the positive energy and love you consistently exude to others. We are holding you close to our hearts - Kate, Mike, Miles and Jojo

To the family, we would like to express our sincere condolences and send our Christian love along with some words of encouragement. The Bible reports many instances of humans young, old, male and female who was brought back to life on earth. God hate death he views it as an enemy. (1 Corinthians 15:26) He has a yearning to conquer that enemy, to undo death by means of a resurrection. He longs to bring back those who are in his memory and to see them live on earth again. (Job 14:14, 15 please read) For additional information on this and many other Bible topics please visit www.jw.org
