OBITUARY:
Samuel Lee Roach Sam Roach of Atlanta, Georgia was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and died peacefully on August 30, 2017. He was commissioned as a lieutenant and served as a navigator bombardier in the Army Air Force in World War II. After his service, he had an outstanding career with FW Dodge, a division of McGraw-Hill, for 44 years. He frequently achieved national sales recognition. Among his many interests were travel, photography, theater, computer technology and synchronized swimming. Sam had many friends because he loved and accepted people and made them feel special. His hugs were coveted. He will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed. Sam is survived by his wife Gail Parnelle Roach, daughters Carol Lumpkin (Bob) and Liesa Mitchell; grandchildren Commander Stephen Taz Lumpkin, US Navy (Jill), Melanie Markham, Heather Logan (Jess) and Trip Mitchell (Haley); and great-grandchildren: Hunter, JB, Jackson, Addison and Case. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross for the victims of Hurricane Harvey or to a charity of your choice. The family plans to have a Celebration of Life for Sam. I am so very sorry to hear of Sam's passing. I worked with him for almost twenty years at F.W. Dodge, and he was such a nice man, a man who really loved life. He was multi-talented, and his lively interest in photography, art, travel and numerous other things was contagious - Sam was irrepressible! But more important, he was a kind person who loved his family and friends, and was loved in return. Rest in Peace, Sam.
