OBITUARY:
H. Lawrence Clever (Larry), age 88, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at his home in Atlanta, Georgia.
He was born June 14, 1923 in Mansfield Ohio to Vance and Leona Clever. He received his PhD in Chemistry from Ohio State University in 1949.
He was a Chemistry instructor at Duke University for three years. He moved to Atlanta in 1953 becoming a Professor of Chemistry at Emory University where he taught for 40 years. After retiring, he continued his research on the solubility of gases in liquids and also on the surface tension of liquids and solution. He was a founding member of the Solubility Data Commission of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).
With his wife of 55 years, he shared his love of family, travel, hiking, reading, and the Smoky Mountains.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, John; daughter-in-law, Anne; grandchildren, Faye and David; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made to The Salvation Army or Clairmont Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Decatur on Saturday, May 26 at 10 am, gathering in the parlor at 9:30am with a reception to follow the service.
